Safety & Warnings

This is a tool, not a toy. The magnet inside is a rare-earth (neodymium) magnet and is far stronger than the magnets most people have handled. Please read this before your first use.

Keep it away from children. This tool is made for adults. The puck itself is far too large to swallow, but children should not play with it or use it unsupervised.

If a magnet is ever swallowed, treat it as an emergency. The magnet is sealed inside the resin body and is not meant to come out. If the body is ever cracked and the magnet is exposed or comes loose, stop using it and keep it away from children and pets. Swallowed rare-earth magnets can attract each other through the wall of the intestine and cause serious internal injury. If you think a magnet has been swallowed, get emergency medical care immediately and tell the staff a magnet may be involved. It changes how they treat it.

Pacemakers, defibrillators, and other medical implants. Strong magnetic fields can interfere with pacemakers, ICDs, insulin pumps, and other implanted or worn medical devices, and some devices are built to change modes near a magnet. If you or someone near you has one, keep this tool well away from it and check with the device manufacturer or your physician before using it.

It will pinch. Respect the snap. This magnet jumps to steel from several inches away, hard and without warning. Keep your fingers out of the gap. A finger caught between this and a shovel, classifier, or sluice can mean a blood blister or worse. To get it off a steel surface, slide it off sideways instead of pulling straight up.

Keep it away from electronics and cards. Store and carry it away from your phone, GPS, camera, hard drives, hearing aids, mechanical watches, and any credit, debit, hotel, or ID card. Magnetic stripes can be wiped, and a strong magnet can throw off a compass, including the one in your phone.

Do not slam it, drill it, or cook it. The magnet is brittle and the resin body is not indestructible. Slamming it onto steel or dropping it on rock can crack the body or chip the magnet. Do not drill, cut, grind, or machine it. Do not burn it. Do not leave it on a dashboard in summer heat. Sustained heat above roughly 175°F can permanently weaken the magnet.

Field care. Rinse and dry it after use. The resin seals the magnet, but do not store it wet or leave it sitting in water.

Your responsibility. By buying this product you confirm you have read these warnings and accept responsibility for handling it safely and keeping it away from children.
